Congratulations to the winners of the first annual Capturing Opportunities Awards.
Hard work and community involvement have always been valued in rural Manitoba. The Capturing Opportunities Awards were instituted to honour rural Manitobans who show the hard work, dedication and leadership necessary to make their communities and regions a better place to live. The following three awards were presented in 2007:

Rural Youth Achievement Award – This award was presented to the Youth Community Partnership of Sandy Hook. This group worked together to better their communities by addressing local needs such as recreational facilities, transportation issues and drug and alcohol abuse.

Outstanding Community Leadership Award – Diana DeLaronde-Colombe of Waboden won this award for her leadership role in getting a new playground built in her community, establishing a new daycare and organizing fundraising activities to finance school trips.

Economic Development Innovation Award – This award was presented to the Main Street Revitalization Committee of Russell for their efforts to build on tourism and agriculture as part of their communities’ long-term future.
